This series of photos shows "Black Cat" flying out of Table Bay at the start of the 1996 Cape to Rio Race across the South Atlantic. Although she did not finish in the prizes, the smallest monohull ahead in Rio was a 42ft IMS racer. She also beat most of the multihulls across the Atlantic.

"Black Cat" has exceptional light air speed. In the race during which these 2 photos were taken the winds never exceeded 5 knots. Over a course of about 10 miles she finished about 45 minutes ahead of the only other boat to complete the course, a Farr 38 (Farr 11.6).
