Page 6 - Side and bottom skin

Scarph joint on 6mm plywood bottom skin. The edge of the sheet closest to the camera has a half-depth rebate full length, routed as part of the kit cutting process. This rebate is part of the detail for the joint between the flat and radiused sections of the hull.

Bottom plywood fitted. The pre-cut panels proved to be a perfect fit, butting on centreline and ending precisely on the centre of the lower tangent stringer.

Bottom and sides fitted. The side panels end on the centre of the upper tangent stringers, ready for the junction to be formed with the radiused panel. The upper edge of the side panel has a half-depth edge rebate, the same as the outer edge of the bottom panel.

Same stage, overall view. The bow bulkhead has not been set up skew, it is an optical illusion due to the angle at which the photo was taken.
The side panels in the bow must be done in half-sheets. The surface has a lot of twist due to the hull flare combined with hollow sections low down. Full sheets cannot be pulled into this surface without excessive load on the plywood.
